Our Vineyard

Location

Located within the Bridge Pa Triangle - this area is highly regarded as a premium winegrowing region. The site is located on an ancient riverbed left behind when the Ngaruroro River changed course and diverted behind Roy’s Hill. The soils are largely made up of free draining river gravels overlaid with alluvium formed from loess, greywacke and volcanic tephra from the Central Plateau. The stony soils, known as ‘Red Metals’ due to the distinctive rusty red colour, provide ideal free draining soils for growing grapevines.

Varieties

The vineyard is 11 ha and is currently planted in Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. The vines were planted in 1999 - 2000 are now over 20 years old now providing fruit with a real depth of flavour and character. We have recently top grafted some Sauvignon Blanc and planted some Chardonnay which will start producing fruit in 2025.

People

Bridget & Miles manage the day to day operations in the vineyard but we also rely on family to help out during the busy times. One of our favourite times of the year is harvest time. We usually have a group of family members come out to the vineyard to help hand harvest the grapes. Shown here is Karen’s aunty Marilyn and mother Jill harvesting Syrah.
